A warm welcome to our home

Set in a beautiful Grade II listed castle, our unique care home has been designed to enhance the quality of life for our residents, to promote a feeling of warmth and a sense of tranquility. St Wilfrid's Priory Care Home specialises in residential and respite care.

A peaceful home with views of the historic castle

St Wilfrid’s Priory Care Home offers a delightful home environment split across two floors, designed with wellbeing and comfort in mind. The individual bedrooms each offer a sitting area, an emergency 24 hour call system and plenty of space to allow residents to personalise rooms.  Some rooms have en-suite facilities, wet rooms and kitchenette areas. They offer a peaceful oasis, and we encourage residents to make them their own with their favourite belongings like pictures and trinkets, or blankets and cushions.

The home offers large, comfortable, homely living areas with stunning views of the historic castle and gardens, where residents can join in with the wide range of activities taking place on a daily basis.

Make the most of local beauty and culture

Life at St Wilfrid's Priory is about residents living the life they want for themselves. We encourage residents to get involved with the activities we offer onsite, as well as getting out and about. We organise a variety of activities in the home, and arrange trips to the local area and further afield, such as the theatre next door, or trips to beach or the castle itself.

Tea on the patio, croquet on the lawn

We are very proud of our outdoor space at St Wilfrid's Priory. From taking tea on the patio to growing vegetables in our allotment, there is a way for everyone to enjoy the garden and it's a lovely space to entertain families and guests, especially in the warmer months.

There are a great many flowers and shrubs in the beds around our lawns, which are perfect for games like boules and croquet, and we have a summer house for those who prefer to spectate. The well-established trees provide shade in the hottest weather, and are a haven for wildlife all year round.

Care you can feel confident in

My brother has been a resident at St Wilfrid's for over three years and is extremely happy there. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and he is well looked after. He looks at St Wilfrid's as his home, and the staff, as his extended family. The activities coordinator has found extra activities to suit his needs, and he loves going into the beautiful garden when the weather allows. He also tells me that the food is excellent! We're delighted that he's so happy at St Wilfrid's, so a big thank you to all the wonderful staff!

Sister of Resident, St Wilfrid's Priory Care Home

Whether it’s wet or dry outside, we at OSJCT feel that activities are essential in providing the best caring environment to live in.

Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us at St Wilfrid's Priory. We have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships.

We are also fortunate to have the support of many volunteers of all ages from the local community, strengthening our links to this thriving town. Here is a sample of activities on offer:

  • Trips to garden centres, cafés, pubs, sporting events, National Trust parks, wildlife parks, aquariums and museums.
  • Visit from Pets as Therapy Dogs
  • Exercise and wellness activities, for example Seated Yoga, Zumba
  • Board game competitions and quizzes
  • Music therapy sessions
  • Gardening
  • Arts and crafts
  • Communal Church services

With so many well-being activities for body and mind on offer, we also recognise that everyone needs some personal space for relaxation and mindfulness for personal reflection. The cosy lounges offer an opportunity for some quiet time or to host family and friends.

And that’s not all:

We’ve had silent discos, hoe downs, Chinese banquets, Oscar parties and so much more.

Many of the activities feature Reminiscence Therapy to aid those living with Dementia to remember events, people and places using sight, touch, taste, smell and sound.

The talented chef and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals on site daily from our own kitchens. We source quality produce for our excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All-day dining is available for lighter meals and snacks and all dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences.

The menus change daily, and the kettle is always on, so hot drinks are available throughout the day.

You are free to take your meals in your room if you wish or you can join other residents in the main dining hall to enjoy your food in a more social environment.

Administrator

My name is Debbie and I am the Administrator for St Wilfrid’s and I’ve been here for almost 3 years now!

Prior to working for OSJCT, I worked as a Community Carer for 3 years, but due to decreasing physical health, I needed to find something that could combine my passion for caring in some capacity, with a less physical role and low and behold, the Administrator role came up!

I love meeting and greeting Residents, their families and visitors to our Home and showing off our unique, yet homely, residence.  Arundel and the Castle in particular, hold a very special place in my heart, stemming back to my childhood Primary School residential trip, many years ago, so it’s absolutely wonderful to be reminded of that experience, on a daily basis.

I work part time, due to having 4 children at Home and 3 demanding dogs and my outside interests include walking, nature, family time and spending time with those I love.

Paul Mynn

Handyman

Hi, my name is Paul. I have been the handyman at St Wilfrid’s Priory since July when I transferred from another OSJCT home in Wiltshire.

I joined the Trust in 2023 after an interesting and varied career, ranging from English language teaching and working for the civil service to running a guest house in Margate. I have a passion for history and historic buildings and leapt at the chance to work at St Wilfrid’s. Having spent years renovating the Grade II listed neo-classical property where I lived and ran the guest house, I was keen to work in another historic building to develop my skills further.

The Priory is a uniquely special home, set in lovely surroundings and I am enjoying being part of the friendly team. The main reason for moving to Sussex was to be nearer to the rest of my family. I also wanted to spend more time sailing my small yacht which is moored near Chichester. I am hoping to explore the south coast in the coming years. In addition to sailing I have always enjoyed gardening, and I am looking forward to making my own contribution to the charming gardens at St Wilfrid’s. I used to grow my own fruit and vegetables for many years and have a particular fondness for old roses.

Care fees vary depending on the level of care required, and this will be confirmed upon completion of a care assessment prior to moving into the home.

Below is indicative pricing for self-funded residents per week.

Care Type Fees From Fees To
Residential Long Term £1,210 £1,320
Residential Respite £1,330 £1,435
Dementia Long Term £1,375 £1,435
Dementia Respite £1,515 £1,570

Our home charges self-funder rates for the services we provide. We accept third party top ups for individuals funded by the Local Authority up to the self-funder rate.

We understand that paying for long-term care can often be a complex subject, and with several options available to you it can be confusing. You will find helpful guidance on our Paying for care page.
