Keeping active and healthy is fun at any age. This week, we’ve been doing some Olympic-themed arts and crafts, and of course our window has been updated to reflect the games in Tokyo. We’ve been combining activity with mindfulness, and colouring in our own Olympic rings.
We all know the benefits that staying active has on our health. Physically, it can lower the risk of stroke, heart disease or type 2 diabetes. Keeping fit also helps maintain strength and balance which can lessen over time as we get older, and can mean a reduction in the risk of falls. Falls are a big consideration as we get older, and the NHS website has a lot more information about risks and prevention, such as keeping as strong as possible.
Mentally, it helps keep our mood positive, and activities like the colouring are valuable in keeping stress down and helping us to relax.
Getting more activity into our everyday lives isn’t always as energetic as some of the athletes; for us at Buckland Court, it’s sometimes just about taking a stroll in the garden and having a chat with the animals. There are always benefits for our physical and mental health.
Buckland Court is an active place to be, but residents also enjoy spectating too, and with the Euros, Wimbledon, the Lions tour and the Olympics, it’s shaping up to quite the summer of sport!
