Rodley House cycle challenge for Dementia Action Week
Care home team's month of fundraising culminated in a 24-hour cycle
Employees and residents at Rodley House have been fundraising this month to support Dementia Action Week (17 – 23 May). Activities at the Lydney care home culminated in a 24-hour static bike cycle challenge from 8am Thursday to 8am Friday 21 May.
Team members at the care home who kept the wheels turning on two indoor exercise bike, included Activities Coordinator Dawn Copeland who organised the fundraising events. Earlier in May the home held a cake sale, with bakes donated by residents’ family members and muffins donated by the local Tesco.
The home also held a raffle, with donated prizes including a professionally made cake and a day of free decorating by local tradesman Ian Priday.
Activities have already raised £150 and the team is hoping to meet their target of £200 with the cycle challenge.
Dawn said: “Many of our residents live with dementia, a challenging condition, but one that doesn’t stop them having wonderful conversations, precious friendships and experiences with loved ones, as well as joining in with the vibrant activities at our home. We are pleased to take part in Dementia Action Week and have been touched by the support of our residents, families and community members.”
