A warm welcome to our home

Situated in the Lincolnshire town of Boston is Skirbeck Court, offering residential and day care to its 38 residents. The home is set in mature gardens, within walking distance of Boston town centre with its twice weekly market and the famous St Botolph’s Church, visible from the grounds at night under its gothic style illumination.

Beautifully tended gardens for year-round enjoyment

Surrounded by peaceful and beautifully tended gardens, residents can take a seat on one of the homes patios or stroll through the colourful flower beds. Our lovely landscaped gardens are there to enjoy throughout the year.

Care you can feel confident in

There was no doubt about it when the time came to look for a care home Skirbeck Court was always going to be first choice. After suffering a stroke, Mum lost the use of her left arm and leg is completely reliant on the care team to assist her in all her needs. We are very happy knowing that Mum is well looked after safe and free to live her life and make her own choices as she pleases in this well-run, clean, friendly, homely environment which is staffed by a dedicated, caring team of professionals.

Son of Resident, Skirbeck Court

Whether it’s wet or dry outside, we at OSJCT feel that activities are essential in providing the best caring environment to live in.

Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us at Skirbeck Court. We have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships.

We are also fortunate to have the support of many volunteers of all ages from the local community, strengthening our links to this thriving town. Here is a sample of activities on offer:

  • Trips to garden centres, cafés, pubs, sporting events, National Trust parks, wildlife parks, aquariums and museums.
  • Visit from Pets as Therapy Dogs
  • Exercise and wellness activities, for example Seated Yoga, Zumba
  • Board game competitions and quizzes
  • Music therapy sessions
  • Gardening
  • Arts and crafts
  • Communal Church services

With so many well-being activities for body and mind on offer, we also recognise that everyone needs some personal space for relaxation and mindfulness for personal reflection. The cosy lounges offer an opportunity for some quiet time or to host family and friends.

And that’s not all:

We’ve had silent discos, hoe downs, Chinese banquets, Oscar parties and so much more.

Many of the activities feature Reminiscence Therapy to aid those living with Dementia to remember events, people and places using sight, touch, taste, smell and sound.

The talented chef and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals on site daily from our own kitchens. We source quality produce for our excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All-day dining is available for lighter meals and snacks and all dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join us. The menus change daily and the kettle is always on. Our chef bakes every day so there is always a fresh cake for residents, friends and family to enjoy.

Residents are also encouraged to help prepare their own food and to make snacks whenever they choose.

Home Manager

My Name is Naomi, I have been working in the care industry for over 20 years, I started working in care homes as an after school job in a kitchen, washing up after tea and I then started doing care shifts to help out and on weekends, it was then, that I found who I am.

Care for me has never been just a job, it is a vocation, something that I am truly passionate about. I have worked in most roles within the care home environments throughout Boston, Essex and Suffolk and in 2012 I qualified as a Nurse and returned back to care homes in Essex and Suffolk, working my way through the ranks as a Nurse, then as a senior nurse, I then spent 8 years as a Deputy Manager, before moving back up to Lincolnshire. I have worked for several different care providers over the last 20 years including 3 large providers in the South of England before starting my Journey with OSJCT.

I joined OSJCT because their values align with my own and I am looking forwards to making a difference in the lives of the residents in my care. Over the course of my career, I have developed a real passion for end of life care and dementia care and really enjoy making a difference to people’s lives. Sometimes that difference can be as small as making someone smile when they’re having a bad day, or as big as being able to go paddle in the sea, or to go see a show.

If you were thinking about joining care, I would tell you it is hard work but very rewarding. Every day is different and the little moments can really make a big impact for those living and working in care. I had lots of different jobs before care and this is by far the best.
