An all-inclusive lifestyle designed for comfort

At Wellford Gardens, residents are choosing an all-inclusive lifestyle. Each of our 65 bedrooms benefits from an en-suite wet room, and many have a private patio, overlooking beautiful, landscaped gardens. There is a café for catching up with friends, a private dining room for those special family occasions, as well as a cinema room, hair and nail salon, treatment room, and lots of space for activities and favourite pastimes.

Wellford Gardens is a supportive community with person-centred care. We specialise in dementia care and we offer a market-leading practical approach to caring for people living with dementia. We also support the family and friends of those moving into long-term dementia care. We are extremely proud to have our very own Admiral Nurses, specialist nurses who benefit from ongoing development with Dementia UK.

Comfort, safety and modern innovation combined

The comfort and well-being of our residents is of the utmost importance to us and we have incorporated some industry-leading technology into our new home. All bedrooms are fitted with an acoustic monitoring system that keeps a watchful ear out at night without interrupting residents’ sleep. It promotes privacy by removing the need for a carer to enter bedrooms during the night, unless help is required. Our care is always centred on the individual and being able to use this new technology means we can focus our attention on those who need it.

Our communal areas have a fresh air ventilation system to support everyone’s wellbeing. This is an important infection control method against Covid-19, influenza and other airborne illnesses, and it ensures that the air in our home is fresh and free of pollutants such as pollen and CO2 emissions. It improves on simply opening a window because it moves air around the whole room without a reliance on weather conditions like a breeze to bring air inside.

Celebrate in style

Our private dining room is available to all our residents to host their own events with friends and family, from a traditional Sunday lunch to a festive birthday party, or any other event that has cause for celebration. Our Executive Chef creates a menu tailored to the resident’s taste and vision for the event, and our dedicated hospitality team provide support to make sure every detail is taken care of.

Life at Wellford Gardens is about residents living the life they want for themselves, and making the most of the activities we offer, as well as getting out and about. We organise a variety of activities in the home, and arrange trips to the local area and further afield. Residents also have access to our driver to take them to appointments, to meet friends, or to do some shopping or attend an event. It’s as easy as making the booking.

The staff at Wellford Gardens are always cheerful and friendly. They are kind and compassionate to residents, showing endless patience. The home feels very homely and the food looks and smells delicious. There are lots of activities for the residents to enjoy which keeps minds and bodies active. I cannot believe how well Mum has settled. It feels like she is staying in a 5 star hotel.

Daughter of Resident, Wellford Gardens

Residents can enjoy social activities within the home every day. An accessible minibus is often used for trips to local places of interest, supported by the team.

The dedicated Activities Co-ordinators are here to make life as enjoyable and varied as possible and they work in partnership with residents to shape the schedules of activities. Here is a sample of activities they might organise:

  • Trips to local attractions, for example garden centres or cinemas
  • Visit from Pets as Therapy Dogs
  • Exercise and wellness activities, for example Seated Yoga, Zumba
  • Fun activities with ‘Messy Miniatures’, the local toddler group
  • Board game competitions and quizzes
  • Music therapy sessions
  • Gardening
  • Arts and crafts
  • Communal Church services

With so many activities for body and mind on offer, residents will always find something to get involved with. One-to-one sessions are also planned to ensure that every resident has time committed to them to do activities of their choosing and no resident misses out on quality time.

Feast on delicious meals cooked by our chef, using the freshest of local ingredients. With menus designed in conjunction with our residents, mealtimes are an important part of our day. Choose to eat in our sociable open-plan rooms on each floor, or make a real occasion of it and book our private dining room to host your own event.

Dorte Chandler

General Manager

Dorte Chandler is proud to be the General Manager at Wellford Gardens, following a successful career with the Trust. Prior to joining Wellford Gardens, Dorte was Home Manager at Spencer Court. She has worked in the care industry for many years and initially joined OSJCT as a carer at Mayott House (now an ECH scheme) when she was 20. Shortly after, Dorte was promoted to Assistant Manager at the age of 21, which made her the youngest in the county at that time. Dorte then moved to Head of Care, and became Home Manager with roles at various OSJCT care homes.

Dorte left to take up a position in the training department in Health and Social Care but, because she missed working in a care environment, she re-joined OSJCT in July 2018.

Dorte has a Registered Manager Award, Health and Social Care level 4 and a counselling certificate.

Typically, Dorte begins her day by walking around the home, making notes and chatting with the residents. Dorte meets with the heads of departments on a daily basis to discuss the day ahead and highlight any priorities or appointments.

Dorte feels that every part of her role is equally rewarding, and she particularly loves talking to the residents, making sure they are happy, safe and well taken care of.

Dorte has two particularly fond memories of her time with OSJCT. The first was at Mayott House where she helped a resident fulfil a lifelong ambition of flying in a plane. The second was when she arranged for a resident at Townsend, who used to work on the railway, to go first class on the train to Dawlish in Devon for the day.

In her spare time, Dorte and her husband help their neighbour by doing her gardening and taking her dog out for walks. Dorte also has a love of pets, ballroom dancing and travelling in her campervan.

Sally started as a carer in Glebe House Kidlington in 2015, where she moved over to the activities role in 2018.  She moved to Spencer Court in 2021 and was thrilled to win the Trust’s Activities Co-ordinator of the Year award 2021. She has also been a finalist for The Outstanding Community Engagement Award two years running.  In 2022, Sally was awarded a Chairman’s Commendation for meritorious service to OSJCT.

Sally is very much looking forward to her new role as Events Manager at Wellford Gardens.  In particular, she will be looking to involve residents, families, volunteers and the wider community in her events to help create a vibrant environment in a wonderful home, cementing the home’s place at the heart of the community.

On a personal level, Sally enjoys spending time with her family, looking after her two grandsons, and going for long walks with her cocker spaniel, Piper, who also enjoys visiting the residents occasionally.

Andrew’s passion is providing excellent food and catering services for our residents and their families.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family. He has a keen interest in history, spending time outdoors and working on classic sports cars.

Bekie Jones

Housekeeping Manager

Bekie has worked with the Trust since December 2023 having been working as an emergency call taker answering 999 calls.

She had previously worked in a luxury residential care home as a Housekeeping Manager before moving to the ambulance service. During her time there, she missed the rewarding & enjoyable roles within a care setting and so when the opportunity arose to work at Wellford Gardens, she was very keen to be part of the team.

Bekie’s background is in hospitality customer service within a number of different roles but her passion will always be social care. She is really looking forward to managing a new team and providing outstanding service to residents.

Outside of work, she is studying a psychology degree. Bekie also enjoys watching crime documentaries and snuggling up with her rescue cat, Freddie.
