Intergenerational project with Caterpillar music
Residents and toddlers came together to sing and build friendships
Grevill House in Cheltenham and Caterpillar Music joined together this week as they started a lovely intergenerational project. The project was run at Grevill House where the children who are aged from 3 months – 3 years joined the residents for a music session and lots of fun.
Caterpillar Music is a class which includes multi-sensory props, puppets, instruments and engaging themes ensuring that each session has the “wow factor” along with lots of lovely surprises to enchant and excite.
Intergenerational classes are new to Caterpillar Music, but they are such a valuable, wonderful connection within the community and bring children and the older generation together. Caterpillar Music sessions are inspired by Montessori teaching, promoting independence and encouraging both the children and residents to explore music in their own way.
Jemma Field from Caterpillar Music said “We are really pleased to be bringing our popular Caterpillar Music format to intergenerational classes and it was so special to see the residents and children enjoying music together. We had everyone singing along to old favourite songs and the children especially enjoyed how the residents brought the music to life with our puppets and instruments. I look forward to coming back to Grevill House and seeing new relationships blossom.”
Kate Smith, Home Manager said “I absolutely loved welcoming Caterpillar Music into our home and to see the joy and pleasure that the children brought to our residents was truly special and I cannot wait to welcome them into our home again and to develop our intergenerational link”.
The intergenerational sessions will be happening bi-weekly and we look forward to seeing resident’s wellbeing increase and building friendships with the visiting children.
