Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC, The Heights is a purpose-built care home in High Wycombe offering specialist nursing and dementia care for older people. Part of The Orders of St John Care Trust, our not-for-profit status means every decision is centred around our residents and helping the people we care for feel valued, respected and supported every day.
Specialist dementia and nursing care with heart
Our experienced, compassionate team provides 24-hour support tailored to each person’s needs, with care plans reviewed regularly to ensure the right level of help is always in place. Whether it’s short-term respite or long-term specialist dementia care, our focus is on dignity, individuality and quality of life.
With 75 en-suite bedrooms and dedicated nursing units on each wing, The Heights is fully equipped to support both everyday needs and more complex conditions, all within a safe, caring environment.
Thoughtfully designed for comfort and connection
Every bedroom is bright, and spacious and with an en-suite, with state-of-the-art profiling beds and room for additional equipment if required. We encourage residents to personalise their space with familiar belongings from home.
Our home has a lively, inclusive atmosphere, with comfortable communal lounges, a lift for easy access, and plenty of space to spend time with friends or family. Outdoors, a secure landscaped garden with a vegetable patch offers opportunities for light gardening or simply relaxing in the fresh air.
Living well every day
At The Heights, no two days are the same. From arts and crafts to book clubs, music sessions and gardening, our team plans engaging activities for all interests and abilities. We’re deeply rooted in the local community, working with nearby schools, groups and charities to enrich everyday life with connection and fun.
Delicious food is freshly prepared on-site using local ingredients where possible. Residents have a say in menu planning, and mealtimes are sociable occasions enjoyed in our welcoming dining areas. Guests are welcome to join for a small charge or use the kitchenettes to feel right at home.
Extra support, comfort and care
To complement our in-house care, we partner with local healthcare professionals, from GPs and chiropodists to physiotherapists and dieticians, ensuring every resident receives expert support when needed. We also hold regular religious services and support people’s spiritual wellbeing.
We’re proudly pet friendly, knowing how much joy animals bring, and residents can enjoy pampering in our on-site hair salon - one of life’s simple pleasures.
For people, not profit
As part of The Orders of St John Care Trust, we’re proud to be a charitable, not-for-profit provider. We reinvest straight back into our care homes - whether that’s new equipment, specialist training or improving resident activities and environments.
It’s our way of keeping the focus where it belongs; on the people who live and work here.

The most impressive (and important) thing about this care home is the staff. From my very first visit, they have all shown a high level of compassion and care and do all that they can to make the experience as positive as it can be for both residents and visitors. They make the effort to get to know the residents and their families and always make you feel welcome when you visit your loved one. A particular thank you to the entertainment team for the weekly Bingo sessions that coincide with my visit to my Dad (and for saving me a seat every week!) It is a great comfort to know that my Dad is being cared for by such a friendly and compassionate team.
Daughter of Resident, The Heights
Whether it’s wet or dry outside, we at OSJCT feel that activities are essential in providing the best caring environment to live in.
Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us at The Heights. We have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships.
We are also fortunate to have the support of many volunteers of all ages from the local community, strengthening our links to this thriving market town. Here is a sample of activities on offer:
- Trips to garden centres, cafés, pub’s, sporting events, National Trust parks, wildlife parks, aquariums and museums
- Visit from Pets as Therapy Dogs
- Exercise and wellness activities, for example Seated Yoga, Zumba
- Fun activities with the local toddler and nursery group
- Board game competitions and quizzes
- Gardening
- Arts and crafts
- Communal Church services
With so many well-being activities for body and mind on offer, we also recognise that everyone needs some personal space for relaxation and mindfulness for personal reflection. The cosy lounges offer an opportunity for some quiet time or to host family and friends.
And that’s not all:
We’ve had silent discos, hoe downs, Chinese banquets, Oscar parties and so much more.
Many of the activities feature Reminiscence Therapy to aid those living with Dementia to remember events, people and places using sight, touch, taste, smell and sound.
The talented chef and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals on site daily from our own kitchens. We source quality produce for our excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All-day dining is available for lighter meals and snacks and all dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences.
Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join us. The menus change daily and the kettle is always on. Our chef bakes every day so there is always a fresh cake for residents, friends and families to enjoy.
Each of the households has their own small kitchen dining room where residents can take their meals if they wish. Residents are also encouraged to help prepare their own food and to make snacks whenever they choose.
