Local companies and families attended the dementia day on Wednesday 14th November and were able to listen to our expert speakers. They also had an opportunity to speak with people who have had similar experiences
Our first talk was from our Admiral Nurse Nikki Rowe, Nikki spoke about the signs, symptoms and behaviours of Dementia, and there was an opportunity for people to ask questions and discuss their experiences.
After a slice of cake and a cup of tea, we sat down to listen to Kate Hicks-Beach from Mindsong, a local charity offering music therapy. Kate talked about her experiences of working with people living in a care setting and the positive impact music can have. Kate invited some volunteers to speak about their favourite moments when volunteering in care homes including Edwardstow Court, these testimonials were very moving.
We had an information table set up with leaflets from local organisations who offer support to families of those living with dementia, families told us they found the day very informative. Nikki and Kate were on hand all afternoon to offer advice and support and to talk to people on a one to one basis.
A great day was had by all. Families had the opportunity to gain some extra knowledge, discover what support is available to them and also to have a look around the new facilities at Edwardstow Court Care Centre.
