Whitefriars Care Home in Stamford is getting involved in Dementia Action Week. There will be a Residents and Families Bake Off event on Tuesday 22nd May, followed by a coffee morning open to all on Wednesday 23 May from 10.30 - 11.30am. Residents will then host a karaoke event on Wednesday afternoon.

Dementia Action Week kicks off on 21 May to 27 May, and encourages the community to take actions, big and small, to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.

OSJCT specialises in dementia care. In fact, the Trust has six Admiral Nurses who not only care for residents living with dementia, but help provide support for their loved ones and carers too.

“As an organisation, we celebrate Dementia Action Week as it is so important to ty to break down barriers and stigma associated with both dementia and care homes. Families and people from local communities are invited to join our homes for dementia awareness and life story events,” OSJCT’s Admiral Nurse, Angie Williams, said.

OSJCT’s Head of Volunteering, Kit Lendon is encouraging the community to sign up to Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends, which is a programme designed to encourage others to learn a little bit about dementia, and transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.

“Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends is a fantastic initiative which we offer all our volunteers so they understand what it’s like to live with dementia. Spreading the word is vital to creating dementia friendly communities so I’m hoping the local community to Goodson Lodge will be keen to come along and find out more,” Kit said.
