Simple guide to fees & funding
Paying for long-term residential or nursing care can feel overwhelming, and understandably so. Unlike NHS healthcare, care home services are not free for most people. How much you contribute depends on personal circumstances, including income, assets, and care needs. At OSJCT, we aim to make the process of funding care as clear as possible.
What affects the cost of care?
- Type of care - residential, nursing, dementia, or respite
- Location - care costs in Oxfordshire may differ from other parts of the UK
- Individual needs - the level of daily support required
- Financial circumstances - state or private funding
What funding options are available?
- NHS Funded Nursing Care (FNC): A weekly payment from the NHS to contribute toward the cost of nursing care if it is required. This does not cover all care home fees - only the nursing element.
- Local authority funding: Means-tested support from your local council based on your finances and care needs. This may include schemes such as Deferred Payment Agreements, which allow you to use the value of your home to fund care, or the 12-Week Property Disregard, where your home is temporarily ignored in financial assessments if you have been in hospital or are receiving permanent care.
- Self-funding: If your savings and assets exceed the threshold for local authority support, you will need to pay privately for your care. Independent financial advice is recommended to plan effectively and explore all available options.
Getting the right guidance
Care funding can be complex, so we always recommend speaking with an independent specialist care fees adviser. OSJCT is affiliated with SOLLA (Society of Later Life Advisers), a professional body dedicated to advisers specialising in later-life financial planning, including care home funding.
Connected to the local community
Our homes in High Wycombe are closely linked with local schools, groups, and volunteers.
These relationships bring energy and variety into daily life, ensuring residents feel part of the wider town community as well as their home.
Not-for-profit care you can rely on
As a charitable trust, OSJCT reinvests into our homes, colleagues, and residents.
For families, that means care in High Wycombe that is always centred on people and is transparent, sustainable, and guided by values of integrity and compassion.
The most impressive (and important) thing about this care home is the staff. From my very first visit, they have all shown a high level of compassion and care and do all that they can to make the experience as positive as it can be for both residents and visitors. They make the effort to get to know the residents and their families and always make you feel welcome when you visit your loved one. A particular thank you to the entertainment team for the weekly Bingo sessions that coincide with my visit to my Dad (and for saving me a seat every week!) It is a great comfort to know that my Dad is being cared for by such a friendly and compassionate team.

How to choose the right care home in High Wycombe
Choosing the right care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make. In High Wycombe, many families start with three key steps:
- Match the care to the need - whether that’s residential, dementia, nursing, or respite care in High Wycombe.
- Visit the homes - nothing compares to experiencing the atmosphere first-hand, meeting the team, and asking questions.
- Think about location and lifestyle - being close to family, friends, and familiar places in High Wycombe can make the transition feel easier.
To help with this process, OSJCT provides a Care Home Checklist, a practical guide to comparing options and focusing on the details that matter most.
