Chinese New Year Celebrations at Windsor Street
Chinese New Year was a fantastic celebration at Windsor Street!
We recently welcomed a couple from China into the home, and they helped our activity coordinators to make the most of the occasion with decorations, lion dancing videos and fortune cookies!
Here is Jean enjoying her fortune cookie!
Barbara celebrates her 105th birthday
Resident Barbara Harvey celebrated her 105th birthday at Marston Court last week with a special coffee morning in her honour.
We enjoyed watching a lovely video compilation of photographs of Barbara’s time here. Barbara had two fabulous birthday cakes; one made by our cook Sue and one from her family too.
Barbara received an official card from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This was her second card having already received one for her 100th birthday.
Happy 105th Birthday to Barbara, a wonderful lady who enjoys life to the full!
Hope Springs Eternal in Malmesbury
Athelstan House residents have remained active members of the community – even in lockdown!
When Malmesbury resident Jackie Peel came up with an idea to brighten the dark days of January for every member of the local community, Athelstan House residents were keen to get in on the action!
It was whilst turning her mind to the task of taking down the Christmas decorations, that Jackie came up with the brilliant idea of not taking down the festive decorations but replacing them with equally sparkly trinkets. It occurred to Jackie that during this year more than most, anything that brought joy and a smile to people’s faces would be really appreciated.
So, along with others, Jackie set about forming an action group and with it came the launch of the ‘Hope Springs Eternal’ initiative. The group approached local organisations and businesses including the residents of Athelstan House who were more than happy to oblige by taking their art and craft sessions large to create some beautiful handmade flowers with which to adorn the windows of their home (shown here).
So, when the town’s residents take their daily exercise now, they can see handmade flowers, butterflies and other baubles dotted all around; there is even a trail to engage young minds which includes the Abbey where the intricate iron fence posts have been further adorned!
Such was the excitement around this initiative that it even made the local ITV news!
