The Lakes Care Centre support isolated individuals at home

The Lakes Care Centre support isolated individuals at home

The Lakes Care Centre in South Cerney joined up with their local church and other local organisations to deliver treats to those living along during lockdown.

The concept was funded by both Gloucestershire Older Persons Association and Age UK. It was to give a gift of an afternoon tea box to isolated individuals living at home.

The Lakes care Centre made some gorgeous yarn birds and provided butter and jams for the scones. Anna, one of the homes lovely volunteers collected the yarn birds on behalf of the church so they could be added to the boxes.
The afternoon tea boxes and the lovely birds were very well received by everyone who was lucky enough to receive one of the 10 boxes.

A gift from Bath Radio makes residents' day!

A gift from Bath Radio makes residents' day!

Goodson Lodge residents have been enjoying playing with their new Smart Speaker courtesy of Bath Radio. Residents are able to request songs to be played on Bath Radio via an App.
They have requested their favourite songs through the daily 'Senior Moments' show and Bath Radio's automated 50s music is aired Monday to Saturday 4pm-6pm.  Residents have enjoyed listening to and reminiscing about their favourite songs.
The speakers will be used by the Activities Team at Goodson Lodge to provide entertainment.  Pat Grugeon said: “The speaker will benefit our residents by invoking memories of favourite songs so that they can reminisce about the music and the memories attached to them.  It is lovely that everyone has the opportunity to request their favourite songs.”

A lovely way to stay in touch

A lovely way to stay in touch

When Wiltshire Wildlife Trust got in touch with details of a new community engagement project, Avonbourne residents jumped at the chance to be involved.
Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, out of their Coombe Bissett Down nature reserve, they had hoped to deliver nature based sessions to older people living in the Salisbury area.
However, with lockdown restrictions putting paid to that, they came up with an innovative idea to engage and that's how we received Nature Postcard activity packs.
The packs contain pre-stamped blank postcards and nature based images of Wiltshire’s wildlife which can be cut out and used as a collaging activity to decorate the blank postcards.
This activity has invoked wonderful memories of walks in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.
Once finished, they can then be sent to friends and family as a lovely way of staying in touch.
