The attentive care team focus on the individual needs of the residents, with a tailored care plan for each person. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for our residents by creating lovely, comfortable, homely surroundings and by providing care, activities and other services designed around each resident’s needs and wishes.

Meet the team

The talented chef and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals on site daily from our own kitchens. We source quality produce for our excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All-day dining is available for lighter meals and snacks and all dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join us. The menus change daily, and the kettle is always on. Our chef bakes every day so there is always a fresh cake to enjoy.

Each of the households has their own small kitchen dining room where residents can take their meals if they wish. Residents are also encouraged to help prepare their own food and to make snacks whenever they choose.

Whether it’s wet or dry outside, we at OSJCT feel that activities are essential in providing the best caring environment to live in.

Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us at Buckland Court. We have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships.

With so many well-being activities for body and mind on offer, we also recognise that everyone needs some personal space for relaxation and mindfulness for personal reflection. The cosy lounges offer an opportunity for some quiet time or to host family and friends.

And that’s not all:

We’ve had silent discos, hoe downs, Chinese banquets, Oscar parties and so much more.

Many of the activities feature Reminiscence Therapy to aid those living with Dementia to remember events, people and places using sight, touch, taste, smell and sound.

As we are on the outskirts of a market town - within a vibrant community, there's never a dull moment. We run regular activities for all to join in:

  • Coffee mornings
  • Care Home Open Day
  • Summer and Autumn fetes
  • Christmas parties

Meet the team

Home Manager

Esther has worked in the care industry for over forty years since training as a General Nurse. She joined the Trust in 2009 as a Registered Manager after many years as a Matron and Manager of several Nursing Homes in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Esther's qualifications include being a Registered General Nurse and she has a London University Diploma in Elderly Care, a Registered Managers Award, a Diploma in Stroke Care, ENB 941 Care of the Elderly and is an NVQ assessor and Internal Verifier.

Esther feels that every day is different and filled with laughter and friendships as well as the odd challenge! She feels that there is a real sense of family at Buckland Court and that they have a great team that works well together.

She feels that the best part of her job is that she can really make a difference to the lives of the residents.

Since being the Home Manager at Buckland Court she has made some changes including working in the beautiful gardens and creating a wildlife garden with a pond complete with three Californian ducks!

To relax Esther likes to spend time with her husband and all of her pets. Together they have a collie dog, six rescue cats, two rabbits, two guinea pigs and 10 assorted chickens with one very handsome and vocal rooster!

Activities Coordinator

Jackie started her career in care at Buckland Court in 1998 and worked part time in the Day Centre. She then worked with children with learning disabilities, adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour and then moved in to  Mental Health working for AWP.

Since moving back to Amesbury in 2018 she was thrilled to see Buckland Court had a vacancy for an Activities Co Ordinator and she has never looked back.

Jackie feels privileged to be a part of Amesbury Kids Club visiting Buckland Court on a regular basis and they have their own raised flower bed here in the garden. The joy this brings our residents is truly wonderful to watch and relationships have been formed. Jackie is actively involved in bringing the community in to the home and visa versa.  Booking outings and entertainment is a small but important role which she relishes too.

Jackie said “Moving back to Buckland Court was the best decision ever, I love my job and I can’t believe that I’m back where I first started in care.”

A proud moment of Jackie's is winning Co-Ordinator of The Year 2019 at The Employee Awards.

Team Leader

Nicky Riggs is Head of Care at Buckland Court. She joined OSJCT in 2009 and has worked her way up to Head of Care.
Starting off as Carer Nicky felt a sense of belonging and felt like she was making a real difference to resident’s lives.
After a couple of years, Nicky was given the opportunity to become Shift Leader which she really enjoyed. A few years after that Nicky then became Care Leader which entailed of guiding new members of staff and organising shifts, liaising with multi-disciplinary teams, attending reviews, and supervising staff members.
In February 2017, Buckland Court was appointed a new Home Manager and made Nicky and the rest of the team feel appreciated. It was then Nicky was approached by the Home Manager and suggested that Nicky would be the ideal candidate for the position of Head of Care.  After passing the interview Nicky then was appointed as Head of Care for Buckland Court.
Nicky enjoys her role and says it can vary from assisting the Home Manager, to budgeting, recruitment, occupancy and rotas. The role also includes giving care, assisting with feeding, dependency paperwork and updating care plans.
Nicky says that Buckland Court feels like an extension of her family and that includes both staff and residents.

Head of Care

Sam has worked in Social Care for 15 years doing various roles. He has always been passionate about social care and his drive is to ensure that he makes a difference to individual lives on a daily basis .
He started working at Buckland Court in 2012 as a carer,  and he gradually progressed his way up to Head of Care, but his ultimate goal is to ensure that he makes a positive impact on the residents that he cares for.
During Sam's spare time, he enjoys fitness, gaming and socialising, but above all he is a massive animal lover. He enjoys lots of walks, especially with a dog by his side.

Administrator

Jane has been with the Trust since 2017 starting at Bartlett House and then transferring to Buckland Court in June 2019.
Jane is the first point of contact at Buckland Court and is compassionate and caring. She regularly speaks to the residents' families and enjoys engaging with the residents themselves. You can usually find a resident sat with her in her office, and the home’s two pet cats. Jane is an enthusiastic member of the team and thoroughly enjoys working at Buckland Court.

Care Leader

Gemma has been working for the Trust for nearly 10 years and is also the Dementia Lead for Buckland Court. Gemma feels like a part of the family working at Buckland Court and knows that it’s a place of work where she belongs. Gemma is passionate about caring for the residents and is always smiling and ready to face any challenges that may arise. Gemma has helped support with many fabulous outings with the residents, but her favourite has to be the Trust's Christmas parties as Gemma loves Christmas. In Gemma’s spare time she likes to spend time with her family, 16 guinea pigs and 2 rabbits.

Day Centre Coordinator

Dawn joined the Trust in 2001 having previously worked with the elderly as a Home Carer. Dawn’s first job at Buckland Court was as a Carer and Dawn is now the Day Centre Coordinator.
Dawn trained as a nanny but soon realised that caring for the elderly was her passion. Dawn fully appreciates the need and value of Day Centres, for the stimulation and social interactions that the client receives from it, and the peace of mind and break that the carer or partner gets.
Dawn works hard at promoting the home and organises events that include the community which have been very popular, especially her raffles and fundraisers. Also, as a more experienced member of the team, Dawn is always there for guidance and advice.

Head Chef

Leanne is the Head Chef at Buckland Court, and has worked for the Trust for 6 years.
She loves her job, as seeing the residents enjoying their food and socialising at meal times is really satisfying. They strive hard for inclusion at Buckland Court and this includes their meals. For example, for those that need their food pureed, they make the food look like anyone else’s plate by piping the food and presenting it to look just as appetising to eat. Outside of work, Leanne's Husband and two children keep her busy, but she does find time to play in the local Netball team, and this helps her unwind and stay fit !
