Meet the team

The talented chef and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals on site daily from our own kitchens. We source quality produce for our excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All-day dining is available for lighter meals and snacks and all dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join us. The menus change daily, and the kettle is always on. Our chef bakes every day so there is always a fresh cake to enjoy.

Each of the households has their own small kitchen dining room where residents can take their meals if they wish. Residents are also encouraged to help prepare their own food and to make snacks whenever they choose.

Whether it’s wet or dry outside, we at OSJCT feel that activities are essential in providing the best caring environment to live in.

Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us at Buckland Court. We have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships.

OSJCT Sample Activities Guide

With so many well-being activities for body and mind on offer, we also recognise that everyone needs some personal space for relaxation and mindfulness for personal reflection. The cosy lounges offer an opportunity for some quiet time or to host family and friends.

And that’s not all:

We’ve had silent discos, hoe downs, Chinese banquets, Oscar parties and so much more.

Many of the activities feature Reminiscence Therapy to aid those living with Dementia to remember events, people and places using sight, touch, taste, smell and sound.

As we are on the outskirts of a market town - within a vibrant community, there's never a dull moment. We run regular activities for all to join in:

  • Coffee mornings
  • Care Home Open Day
  • Summer and Autumn fetes
  • Christmas parties

Meet the team

Home Manager

Esther has worked in the care industry for over forty years since training as a General Nurse. She joined the Trust in 2009 as a Registered Manager after many years as a Matron and Manager of several Nursing Homes in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Esther's qualifications include being a Registered General Nurse and she has a London University Diploma in Elderly Care, a Registered Managers Award, a Diploma in Stroke Care, ENB 941 Care of the Elderly and is an NVQ assessor and Internal Verifier.

Esther feels that every day is different and filled with laughter and friendships as well as the odd challenge! She feels that there is a real sense of family at Buckland Court and that they have a great team that works well together.

She feels that the best part of her job is that she can really make a difference to the lives of the residents.

Since being the Home Manager at Buckland Court she has made some changes including working in the beautiful gardens and creating a wildlife garden with a pond complete with three Californian ducks!

To relax Esther likes to spend time with her husband and all of her pets. Together they have a collie dog, six rescue cats, two rabbits, two guinea pigs and 10 assorted chickens with one very handsome and vocal rooster!

Activity Coordinator

Jackie has always enjoyed a challenge and learning new skills. Jackie started working in Care after being employed part time at Buckland Court’s Day Centre in 1998. From there she sought full time employment as a Teaching Assistant in a Secondary School. From children with learning difficulties she moved on to supporting Adults with Learning Disabilities and challenging behaviour. This then lead on to Mental Health and she worked for AWP as a Support Worker on a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit in Salisbury. Whilst Jackie has always been keen to progress and change direction she stuck to working with people, the one time she tried a 9-5 Office job as a Medical Administrator after a year she knew that it was not where she wanted to be and sought another job, only to find that Buckland Court needed an Activities Co-Ordinator. So, Jackie is back where she should have always been- at Buckland working with people.

Jackie said “Moving back to Buckland Court was the best decision ever, I love my job and can’t believe that I’m back where I first started in care.”

A proud moment of Jackie's is winning Co-Ordinator of The Year 2019 at The Employee Awards.

Activities Co-Ordinator

Laura is one of 3 Activities Co-Ordinators at Buckland Court.

Laura joined Buckland Court in 2019. This is Laura's first role within care, but prior to this Laura spent a lot of time caring for her elderly Grandmother at home, until she then moved in to a care home. This prompted Laura to find work within the Care Industry, so that she could make a real difference to the residents lives.

Laura’s favourite memory so far is taking a group of Residents out to a 1950’s swing dance and watching them reminisce, sing, dance and simply enjoy having a day out.

For fun Laura likes to spend time with her husband and 2 children. She enjoys going back to her home in the Midlands to visit extended family and friends.
